Please don't generalize. You can't take the choices of some and apply it to all dark or brown skin BLACK men...

Everybody have their preferences, don't you?

Some do. But African-Americans have been a part of what is basically a white culture for so long they have been brainwashed into the old idea that lighter is better. Mama and Grandma both think that, probably Papa and Grandpa, too, and have projected it on their sons. It's just an old-fashioned notion that dies hard.

One of the reasons it dies so hard is that girls who are only part black (if you trace their ancestry) are considered black, and so they are not seen as being biased as long as she is, for culture's sake, defined as black. What that does for people who marry for reasons other than color is give them more backbone, I suspect.

But then some men have begun swinging the other way, and appreciating the very dark, semi-sweet chocolate skin tones just because they are not what his parents and grandparents expect him to want. People are all over the map these days, and you just have to look for where you are comfortable. A beautiful woman is a beautiful woman, skin being smooth and well cared for is far more important than the color.

Wouldn't it be lovely if skin color was not such a big deal? If women were appreciated for all their qualities, and not just their skin, or the texture of their hair, or admittedly trivial factors like that? Maybe when the little kids now are grown up, who knows? Maybe this will all be history -- which is where it belongs.

That's an ignorant sterotype that might have applied in the 1950s but not modern day society. There are so many shades of "black" that men rarely become obsessed with one end of the spectrum. Some do, some don't. It's archaic and impractical to apply one point of view regarding skin tone to a wide spectrum of people. Don't be so judgmental - it's disrespectful!

I think it depends on where you live. Here in the southwest, I notice that the black men are largely with 'other' women, but there are really not a whole lot of blacks where I live. I don't want to be hypocritical though, since I am also in an interracial marriage. I think that it just depends on individual preference. I can tell you that there are definitely lot's of black men who do prefer black women.

I totally agree with you. I live in a city with a large black population and I have never has a dark skin boyfriend!!! They turn away from me like I have the plague!! The men that show me the most attention are either white or real bright skinned. I really don't know the answer to this. I am like the same color as my avatar (think i spelled that right) and my boyfriend now is high yellow.

What are you talking about? the majority of dark and brown skin black men are with dark and brown skin women with dark eyes and African American features. This question makes no sense. Where are you from? Good hair? What is good hair? Blacks were born with the hair they have because it protects their scalps from the sun. From cancers and burns and all. That is pretty good hair I think. And, I'm white.

i don't think all black men are that way. i don't think they look at the actual skin tone of the girlneither do they care rather they're white or not. if the girl looksa hot, she looks hot. black men love pretty women, period.

sometimes though, lighter skinned women appear to be a bit more attractive to them though and sometimes not. america perceives beauty as the '''whiter the righter'' thats why thats what you see mostly in videos. thats an american stereotype that we live with. i'm a brownskinned chick and black men approach me all the time. i have a light skinned freind who i walk with alot and most dudes honk at me before her.

Black men don't look at color neither is it never hardly why they stop. they won't be like'' hey , you lighter so i want to talk to you'' thay will probaly say '' girl, you fine as hell!'' or something. they don't care as long as you look good!

Why can't people just like whomever they like? Why do people say black men need to like black women more, but if we say white men should like white women instead of other etnicities then it is all of a sudden racist. People are attracted to others naturally, they don't say, "hmm, I think I will start liking this type of person today."

Beauty is not determined by skin colour, but rather by a person's looks (outside) and a person's character (inside).

They really hate the way they (black men) look. So they don't like others with the same "features" as them.
