Here are some ideas:
Keep windows open a crack for ventilation.
Fabreze does work, at least temporarily.
Keep an open box of baking soda somewhere in the car...it will help absorb the odor.
Keep a fabric softener sheet under your seats.
Clean the upholstery with an upholstery cleaner.
**Don't allow anyone - including you - to smoke in the car. This is the best way to prevent the problem in the first place! Good luck.

Fabreeze just covers smell up for awhile and then smells again.
I found the perfect product for this and know tons of other people that use it. It is a natural fragrance free carbon product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great and eliminates the odors and for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda all those sprays, and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. and gels and oils that say keep away from fabric, pets, etc. and just don't eliminate odors. Just put a few in your trunk and also car. Each only costs a couple of dollars. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it and Internet at customerservice@innofresh.com Definitely worth trying

Had the same problem. Fabreez doesn't last. Put a stainless steel bowl with a little water in it in the car at least overnight. When I first heard this, I tried a large stainless steel spoon on a damp paper towel, and was amazed. Be sure the windows are up, by the way. I've also used a peeled apple rolled in coffee grounds. Worked about as well as Fabreez.

first I would sprinkle some baking soda on the seats and the carpet and allow to sit for a couple hours with the car closed up. Vacuum, adn repeat but this time only let it sit for 30 minutes. Then vacuum again. You could also try cuting up a couple of oranges and placing them in a bowl and then put a bowl in the front floorboard and back floorbroad and allow to set wiht the doors closed...this will put a nice orange aroma in the car, you could even think about putting a slice in your butt tray, just make sure you clean the juice stuff out. You should also use a cleaner for your dash, this will get the odor out of the vinyl. and see about cleaning the steering wheel, I would not use anything oily or your hands could slip while driving and cause a wreck. You might try sprinkling some of the baking soda and then wiping it off.
Febreeze works great, but it won't take out the smoke odor it is in the seats and carpeting.

yes fabreeze works really good. but first vaccum the car and wipe down all the upolstry as tar will build up on them. you will also want to clean the windows as a residue will build up on them too. then spray the fabreeze and let it sit for a while then add whatever scent you might add so the fabreeze doesnt kill it.

Yah, I like Fabreze, but it only can do so much. I'd get some upholstery cleaner or carpet cleaner and put some of it in a bucket of water and wipe everything inside the car down and dry it with another cloth and then spray with Fabreze. You can go to these do-it-yourself car washes that have hangers where you can hang the floor mats and you can wash and rinse those there while your are washing the car. I'd wipe down the trunk mats too.

yes Fabreeze really works, but depending on how bad the smell is, you might have to do it several times. Also washing the entire car in a solution of bleach and dishsoap for all those non-fabric surfaces will help. another thing, while it is summer and your car is in the sun all day, crack the windows open.

Automobile Carpet Freshener
To freshen the carpet in your car, and deodorize, sprinkle the carpet with either commercial carpet deodorizer or baking soda. Let set for 30 minutes, then vacuum. This should leave your car smelling clean and fresh. :)

Oust air freshener works very well , also a dish with ammonia and vinegar, but can you leave your car in the drive way for the day to do this?
