Just like in the movies,( Lost in Space, Star Wars, etc...) do you think we will have a ship that can take us through the galaxy in the next 50-75 years? Or develope like a Hyper drive system?

I hate to say anything is impossible, but it would take some pretty incredible breakthroughs in technology. It's been almost 40 years since we went to the Moon, and we haven't really made any quanum jumps since then.

I doubt it.

We're talking about quantum leaps in the application of very theoretical stuff.

I have little doubt we have the technology to build a multi-generational ship and launch it from orbit. But I don't see anybody funding it.

Furthermore, space exploration is kind of the back burner right now. Even Hubble maintenance is being ignored.

I suppose that is proper. At our stage of development, in general we're pretty poor examples of humanity. Every place we go, we leave trash. We consistently destroy everything we touch. And we kill each other for no reason other than we can. Maybe it's a good thing we don't go farther into space.

no
there are a couple of problems with no sufficient solution, yet.

One of these problems is protection from cosmic radiation and (micro)meteorite impacts, which are essential for longer space travelling.
there were some concepts trying to accomplish that with water tanks, and lead, and multiple layers of material on the outside of such a craft.
But all of these ideas are more or less useless, cause it needs to bring all that stuff up into orbit, first.
This is such an expensive task to do, that the question for the sense can't be sufficiently answered.

The same should be for erecting a moon-base. or even do human spaceflight to the moon.
There's no real sense to do it, since we can explore with robots for much less of the price.
lets say every citizen would give $2000 for such a craft, just to know that you won't fly with it .. would you pay ?

We don't have anything that is even theoretical that would do that, so I doubt very much that we will be able to make a working prototype. We have *never* seen anything go faster than light. Nothing. Not even in our particle accelerators, which make things go 99.9999% of the speed of light. We also have good theoretical reasons for thinking it is impossible. Until one or the other of these changes, we won't be going to another star any time soon (in the next few centuries).

As Carl Sagan said to a school child who asked: "Are we in the Milky Way?", he responded: "You are the Milky Way." In other words, we already have ships that travel through the galaxy, since we are part of the galaxy.

yes. it will be called the Mind Ship. And will be organically connected and controlled by your own mind.

We are already in the galaxy!

Yes, I think we might even know beyond our universe by then.

This will always be science fiction.
