Rome fell when Romans forgot what it meant to be roman. Basically became to comfortable with the way they lived

The immediate fall was due to the invasion of the Goths - - the European barbarian tribes were being pushed eastward by the expanding Huns - - in essence Rome picked her poison, giving the Huns lands and then having to face the Goths and other western tribes.

The bigger picture is that Rome fell because it was from the get-go a welfare state that sustained itself by conquering and taxing an ever larger empire. Ultimately it spread itself too thin.

The analogy to Rome is more appropriate for the USSR.

The US is a free market economy that produces its own wealth.

However, we do spread ourselves too thin in terms of being the world's policeman. They don't even appreciate it, it's not worth the effort - let the sunnis and shia kill each other off then when the victor attacks us, nuke him.

And no, I'm not speaking as a Con or Libertarian here, I've actually read a great deal about Roman history.

Uhm, Rome fell because of countless barbarian invasions, relying to much on mercenaries, etc... By the way, Ceasar (correct spelling) was considered the First Emperor. Nero was emperor around 68 AD, about 4-500 years BEFORE Rome collapsed. Check your history.

Rome fell due to invasion by the Goths from Germany. However, the Eastern Roman Empire, or Byzantium, continued to exist until the fifteenth century when the Ottoman Turks overtook Constantinople.

The standard story is that Rome fell due to invasion., and this is true but its really only the final piece. Rome actually weakened economically from primarily spending its treasury on foreign wars. In addition other factors played into their downfall, like political corruption with created a whole host of internal problems.

Rome fell long before the barbarians came in and finished the job.

Rome fell when Romans deserted the high ideals and values that built their country and government.

It's awful watching history repeat itself.

Nope, It was the spreading of the message of Jesus Christ, that lead to the downfall of Rome!

The Christian Faith, Now has the largest number of members Worldwide.

Why? Because it is a message of Hope, which other faiths do not have.

When they became decadent and lazy and could no longer defend themselves from the onslaught of Germanic tribes. Kinda like the Libs in this country ignoring the danger of the Islamic extremists.
