i agree with mr sceptic on this issue-
if you don't want to give your organs to help someone on your untimely death then carry a card to say so - thats your right -------- however just consider that you or someone you love might benefit from this ruling and if i lost someone i loved i would be glad that their death wasn't in vain.
we rcycle everything else for goodness sake
your body belongs to you not the government . so you have the choice - make the right one for you

Actually I think that it is a good idea that people should be considered to be an organ donor. So long as there is an 'opt out' system.
Too many people are waiting for organ transplants. There are not enough kidneys, hearts, lungs, and livers for example for those who are on transplant waiting lists.
If more people carried donor cards, things might be better, but despite numerous campaigns, there are still loads of people out there who would be fine about giving up organs for others in the event that they die who do not carry a donor card.

I thought Burke and Hare were dead but the body snatchers are back disguised as a government.!!! I think it's wrong. I agree with organ donation but I think it should be left the way it is, What about homeless people who may have no access to the opt out scheme or mentally ill people who may have no family to speak on their behalf, easy prey I would say.

I don't want my organs to end up in a kebab.
Oh! You mean donor, not donner!
No one is losing choice - the suggestion is being made that those who haven't expressed one way or another be assumed to have opted into organ donation, rather than to have opted out.
But no one would stop you carrying a "I'm a selfish bastard and I'd rather my kidneys were burned in the crematorium than save someone's life" card.

Yes I do think its ridiculous.
People should be allowed to choose if they want to or not. Doesn't taking away our right to choose this take away our human rights?
Yes there is a shortage, maybe there should be more education on things like this to convince people from young on why it may be a good idea and give people the right to choose when they are old enough.
I do know people who've almost died because of shortages and I have friends who've family or a friend has died through a shortage. Its funny that they agree that this is wrong. It should not be forced

This is our Government once again bowing down to the EU. A report on BBC TV news,on the 30th May 2007 said...........
The EU could soon introduce an organ donor card covering all member states................it went on to say exactly what the Chief medical officer said today!!
Yes, I agree with you.

I think you mean "donor."
"Donner" was a man who organized an expedition across the US Rockies. They got stranded in the snow and were reputed to have eaten organs (and other body parts), but not to have donated them.
But that does bring up an interesting idea. Maybe stupid people ought to . . . . Oh, nevermind.

Yes if they make it a law then we are no longer donors or in charge of what happens to our bodies after our death.

Maybe the government should stop worrying about our organs and what we do with them and start enforcing a "spell check for idiots" law. I'd vote for that.

It is not ridicules at all. Think of it your dead body will save a life. What use could you or your family have for it that is greater? What harm is been done to you or your family when your dead body is been used for it organs? You find it offensive? Because you find something offensive you will let somebody die! Sometimes we have to impose social responsibilities.
