80 lbs in a year is a very reasonable goal.
How much you currently weight and how active you are will determine who many calories you need to consume. Assuming you are moderately active and over weight, you would need roughly 1500 a day to lose weight.
Work out 3 days a week cardio and on alternating days do weight training. Any old cardio will work as long as you get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes, but try to keep the total work out to 45-60 minutes. Varying the workout every few weeks will keep you from getting bored and help keep you body from adjusting to your work outs.
Make sure with the weights that you are doing (approximately) 3 sets of 10-15 reps on light to moderate weights. THis should tone your muscles and keep you from bulking up. Slightly increase the amount you're lifting about every 2 weeks/6 work outs.

A healthy weight loss rate is about 1-3 pounds per week. So yes, it is possible to lose 80 pounds in a year's time. Before you start a diet, you must determine what your basal metabolic rate is. What this means is that you need to find out how many calories to need to ingest for your body to maintain it's daily functions. Here is a calculator
http://www.csgnetwork.com/caloriesfemalecalc.html
Once you find your minimal caloric intake, look at see how many calories you are taking in now, and reduce that number by 200-500 calories per day. Do not go below your minimal caloric intake. Many people who fad diet do not take this into consideration, and their body literally goes into starvation mode. Your body will start looking for other places to get it's energy, and the first place it will start is with the most difficult tissue to maintain....muscle. You need to make sure that your body is getting the nutrition that it needs so that when you are working out, your body will go for the fat to burn instead of the muscle.
I don't know your medical background, so all I can provide for you is a basic outline. Talk to your doctor before starting any kind of new diet/workout routine to make sure that he approves.

Hmm- well, I really don't know where you're starting from, as fitness goes. But a change in lifestyle might help.
You'll want to eat more grains, fresh fruits and veggies, and steamed veggies. And you'll want to drink more water, and cut down or even out on the fried and junk foods. And don't drink sodas, unless it's as a special treat.
Another thing you want to do is invest in a good pair of shoes, and walk as much as you can. You might want to do a few stretches too, so your muscles won't rebel.
Good luck!
