I tried using the tags, but the doce showed up, not the image.

Here's what I'm talking about:

See what's circled in red?
Well, how do they get those little logo/images in there?

I THINK what you're talking about is "favicons" (those little boogers that ALSO show up on the address bar when you type in the address of a web page - the ones that show up on the tab of a website when you have a tabbing browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 or Opera...) Sometimes the browser will do it, and sometimes not.

At any rate, you can try by, creating a little 32x32 pixel image (I store mine in .png format) then storing it where your website files can get to it, then placing this in your website files:

where you replace "myfile.png" with the name of the file containing your image (you may have to change the reference if, say, you have it in an "images" folder on your website, or whatever...)

By the way, the link statement goes in the ... section of your html file!

These are actually embedded into the image. Using Paint or another image software. The user just takes a print screen of the image and then using one of the image editors inserts the circle into the image and resaves it as a new image.

Well I think you are asking about that small logo which display before your website address in address bar. Am i rite ?

If so, that small icon or logo is called FAVICON & you get yourself a free one from following site. There will also some instruction present on the site to add that logo in your site.
