Is the ACLU still a progressive organization for change or has it devolved into a counter-productive group of cynics who would do anything to affect change, be it postive or negative?

We all know that in the past they have taken unpopular stands on ethical grounds and helped keep certain rights free from the cloud of 'emotional interference'.
But what about now? I'm talking in the past 10 years have they demonstrated that they are dedicated to action to protect the civil liberties of the nation or simply adopt unpopular stances for the publicity? Or have they done anything for that matter?

The ACLU is a large organization, and like any large organization it has both. Some of it's members are fanatical about specific aspects of society to an unhealthy degree, others see the bigger picture. Overall, they're valuable to America, in that even when they err- they tend to err on the side of freedom.

The ACLU is an organization that defends the US consttution against interests that try to destroy it by using various bad people as reasons why THEIR constitutional protections should be stripped away.
e.g. The Klu Klux Klan wants to do something.
Everyone hates the KKK so everyone thinks it is Ok to ban their free speech etc. rights.
The ACLU reminds us that if free speech gets banned, it is banned for everyone.
Much better to take legal action against the KKK for the bad stuff they do, than to eliminate everyone's rights, because some groups abuse them.
ACLU = American Civil Liberties Union

It would be relevant if anyone cared about the Constitution anymore. Or if anyone could understand that when you defend the civil liberties of one person, even "bad" people(see the US vs Larry Flynn) all of our civil liberties are protected for when we need them down the road.
I would never have believed the US Constitution would be irrelevant.

It represents everyone BUT Americans so I think it should be disbanded or atleast renamed. I have been upset with them for many years now.

No, their job is simply to be enablers for criminals.
They've become too large and too burocratic, doing most of their work to get attention so they can raise more money.
