Just as a first step, you might want to try going to tools, Internet Options, click on the connections tab, and click never dial a connection. This assumes you are on broadband.

The response from Lord_Darkclaw can be useful. Alot of times, if you simply right-click on the wireless icon in the systray and look at properties, I think it is. Then go to support tab, and click repair as suggested. If that does not work, the best thing to do is simply restart your system. It should come in okay once rebooted and re-logged-in. From my experience, there is a "timeout" alot of times if the system is left on and the connection is not actively used. I think it has something to do more with firewalls than anything. The wierd thing though, is that if it's not working as you say, if you just keep launching another IE page one after another, many times it will connect properly by about the third or fourth open IE window. Funny huh? If none of these suggestions work, then you got to start getting dirty. Should try unplugging wireless router and modem for 30 seconds, then plug in the modem and wait for all the lights to work(except internet since the router would need to be hooked up), then plug in the router and wait for the lights. Then try internet. 9.5 times out of ten, the previous suggestions wil have solved the problem. If not, then could be hardware issue. In that case, should make sure you have latest firmware update for your router. Also can check to make sure you have the latest driver for your wireless or lan port, which will usually show up when you go to Windows updates page and look at custom updates. Good luck.

It happens all the time. Sometimes it's a problem at the website you are trying to connect to in which case you can only try again later when the problem is fixed. Sometimes it can be a slight fault in your network connection - do you have wireless broadband? I often have to right-click the wireless network and click "repair" to re-establish a connection because the signal is weak.

Another simple solution is to switch off the PC and the router, wait for a minute and then turn them back on again - it fixes most network problems.

What is your IP address? erm...if it isn't 192.168.x.y don't tell us; just make sure it isn't 0.0.0.0, 127.0.0.1, or 169.254.a.b.

What page are you trying to view? Are you using a modem only or a router, as well?

edit: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections (or Network/Internet Connections) > right-click Local Area Connection > status > support > your IP address is listed there.

Your IP address is a unique identifier given to your computer and allows your computer to speak with other computers.

I recently encountered this problem. I had Internet connection on my desktop, but no Internet connection on my wireless laptop. I have Bellsouth DSL w/modem, attached to a netgear router. I tried everything I possibly could before I call tech support. The service tech diagnosed my problem right off, it was that the yellow cable was plugged into the wrong hole in the back of the router. If you're using a router, make sure the power light, Internet light and the light for the 4th line are lit (by my netgear router). Please check your connections for the Internet on your modem and router. You may need to call your service provider for technical support. GOOD LUCK!! ;}
