Why didn't we just let the kings and governments control the entire economy, if we're willing to give it back to them now?

"Them" ???? Who would "they" be? Corporations are forms of doing business - they were formed to enable businesses to access capital to grow, and to allow the little guy like you or me to invest and participate in the profits.

Far from consolidating wealth, corporations traded on public exchanges spread the wealth. I own the largest cellphone provider in Turkey. Well, I don't own it, I own a piece of it, through its ADRs.

A corporation is an artificial entity. If you have a business, it can be controlled without you actually being there.

The government is a lot like a corporation in this respect.

They divested owners of complete financial responsibility, allowed for a business entity to exist beyond the lifetime of a single owner, made it easy to attract new investment, and made it easier to make money for the investors.
