If you buy the Intel system the operating system will be 32 bit. if you buy the AMD system the operating system will be 64 bit.

Some people say the AMD is faster because it is running a 64 bit OS. The draw back to AMD either 32 or 64 bit OS is that the progams you want to run are 32 bit x86 complied programs.

Now I know that may not mean much to you so in laymans terms the AMD has to emulate a Intel processor to run the programs, when you run a program in emulation you lose some speed, how much? It is realitve.

I personally find emulator progams are generally slower that using the real deal.

I would buy the Intel system.

Good luck with your purchase either way you go.....

I have pretty much been a die hard AMD user for the last 8 years or so, however when my work recently outfitted a new lab with the new Core 2 Duo systems I was considerably more impressed with these processors than anything I've seen from AMD in years.

The Core 2's are still pretty pricey, but even the 1.86GHz systems are screaming fast.

You should get a laptop with Intel Dual Core 2.

I personally never had any problems with Intel CPU.
It's hard to say what would be better in over roll performance.
But Intel Dual Core as far as I know should produce less heat and drains less power. Also keep in mind how fast you computer works not always related to your CPU but more or less to other hardware inside and how good they work as one system. For instance, faster HD will make everything runs better and will be more noticeable compare to buying more expansive CPU.

The way I look at it is that AMD is a wanna-be in the PC processor market. They basically copied the Intel architecture.

Microsoft has always written for Intel CPUs and tested with Intel CPUs. That isn't to say they don't test with AMD too.

So IMHO - Intel = Coca Cola (i.e. the real thing)
AMD = the Sams brand cola you get for 75 cents outside a Walmart.

Which would you rather have?

The AMD is slightly faster but the Intel is better quality, it will last longer and not produce as much heat.

Neither is really better. Sorry for making your decision harder ;)
