If you truly desire publication, there are several things you can do--avenues to take. Twenty poems may not be enough for an entire book, but I'm not certain.
If it's traditional publishing you seek, then you'll need to either look for an agent or make submissions directly to publishers. Neither one is easy.
You can go to the library and use the Literary Marketplace, which is a book of publishers and agents. Look for ones that specialize in poetry chapbooks. Once you have several of them selected, make sure you follow their submissions guidelines exactly as they have them listed. Sending in your work your way as opposed to their way marks you as an amateur--something you want to avoid.
If you want to skip the library then go to Preditors&Editors web site and use the comprehensive listing of agents and publishers they have there.
If you want to self-publish the book, then visit Lulu.com, where you can publish anything for free.
I'm not sure how publishing poetry will help you in med school, but good luck to you! :o)

First, use a spell checker (it's "togEther"). Second, unless you are a nouveau e.e.cummings, capitalize your I's. Third, no medical school is going to care about poetry, even if you are successfully published. Fourth, legitimate publishers will never ask for money when you submit articles to them; agencies are a different story (BTW, make sure to make copies of everything you write and keep them in a safe place; then, mail (either snail or e-) a single copy to the desired publisher (magazine, newspaper, etc) with a return, self-addressed/stamped envelope). Last, but not least, your local library and stores will have books that will tell you how to publish your writings. Good luck!

From personal experience, about the only way to get something published is to get an agent. Unless you are wealthy and can publish it yourself. Most publishing houses will not look at submissions
by anyone other than agents. The agents essentially do a pre-screening for the publishers.
Spend no more money than you can afford to lose.
You never can predict who will buy it.
As for med school, I am not sure that is what they want to see on your resume. They might rather see that you spent time volunteering in a hospital.

First, understand that absolutely NOBODY, including med school, is going to be impressed by a self-published collection of poems. If anything, they will think you are a hack and if they are prejudiced against self-publishing it will in fact hurt you.
Second, poetry.com is a known publishing scam. Google "poetry scams" and watch how many times their name pops up. People who continue to recommend this scam should be smacked about the head with a poetry chapbook.
Third, money flows TOWARD the writer. If should never cost you anything to publish. If your poetry is actually any good, then you should be able to submit it to paying markets. Get some copies of Writer's Digest, The Writer, Poets & Writers, etc to find lists of paying markets.

I would check if Chicken Soup for the Soul still makes books. Try to get a couple published in their books.

Make sure it is yours and not someone elses. We all have copies, etc. Watch your grammar- it doesn't have to rhyme...write for your own enjoyment- then your heart and soul will reveal themselves in your poems.
