I have a laptop with 512 mb of PC 2700 speed memory and I want to add another stick (1 gb) of PC 5300, is this ok to do?

If your computer will support the memory, then yes. Just note that the PC5300 memory will be slowed to the speed of the PC2700 memory, so if you can get another PC2700 stick, you can save yourself some money (obviously not the case if you already own the PC5300 stick or got it for free.)

first pc 2700 is ddr1 and pc 5300 is ddr2, they will not work together. if they did the faster pc 5300 would be scaled back to the slow pc 2700 speeds anyways.

check your laptops manual to see if it will in fact accept ddr2 memory, since it came with ddr1 thats all you may be able to use.

Thats not possible PC 5300 is DDR II ram where PC 2700 is DDR Ram.

But you can mix PC 2700 and PC 3200 with out any problems, as both are DDR ram.

It is always preferrable to make certain the RAM speeds match. You are highly likely to get errors if they don't.
