I just started my first period yesterday and we're going to a lake do swim and do boating in a few days.

And my mom says I need to wear a tampon.

Is it alright if I use a finger applicator?

More importantly, is it okay if I use a tampon this soon? My pituitary gland must have bad timing, haha.

Thanks so much

Yes it is safe. Start out with one of the very skinny tampons with a smooth surface (I think the box will say Slender and get the smooth cardboard or plastic with petals).

I had a VERY tough time learning to use tampons. It really hurt. But I wanted to use them so bad because I hated pads so much. Now tampons are all I use. I hope you dont have the trouble I had. I don't think they made Slender or smooth plastic tampons back when I started....

As for TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome), you won't get it if you remember to change the tampon every 6-8 hours, I think it is. The paper inside the tampon box explains all this. You will be fine.... even to use a tampon overnight. Just change it when you wake up.

If you are just starting wearing tampons, get a plastic applicator and the slenderest tampons available.

Change it every four hours.

You can use tampons your very first day of menstruating.

yes you should use tampons but i don't know if a finger applicator is the same as a round tip applicator but for beginner you should use teen slim fit tampons i think that's the name if you have anymore questions go here
