How do I "split screen" my lap top with desktop monitor

There is usually a hot key that will cycle though the screen combinations. Fn+F7 on Lenovo/IBM laptops, Fn+F5 on HPs.


Or, with your external monitor attached, you can open up the Display Properties. Settings tab, click on the 2 monitor, and then the "Extend my Windows desktop . . ." tick box. Click Apply and you should now see your desktop on the second monitor.

Make sure the resolution is where you want it. If the monitor in the little window is in the wrong place, drag it to a position that corresponds to your physical setup. 1 will be your laptop, 2 the external.

WHen you are happy click OK.

Plug in the monitor to you laptop. Find the function key on your laptop that will look kinda like two monitors and hit that until it looks like what you want.
