#1: y=2x+5
#2: 4x+y =2

Since #1 is already solved for one variable, just substitute it into #2.
4x + (2x + 5) = 2
6x = -3
x = -1/2

Now, put that into either equation to find y.
y = 2x + 5
y = 2(-1/2) + 5 = -1 + 5 = 4

All you have to do is plug one equation into the other.
So with,
4x+y=2
sub 2x+5 for y,
and you have
4x+(2x+5)=2
so
6x +5=2
6x=-3
x= (-1/2)

so now y= 2*(-1/2)+5
y=4

4x + (2x + 5) = 2
6x + 5 = 2
6x = - 3
x = - 1/2

y = - 1 + 5
y = 4

x = (-1/2) , y = 4
