Reconnect your sister's computer, go to Start > Run > cmd > type "ipconfig /release". Then connect your computer and wait for it to obtain an IP address from the ISP.

The MAC address of your computer doesn't match the MAC address of her computer that is on file with the ISP's records, which means it doesn't recognize your computer as a valid connection.

Your computing gadget manages the relationship technique. while you're on the on the spot, then the LAN would be disabled and vice versa. Your 2d pc isn't working... verify your connection profile to confirm if the protection settings is actual. Are you getting a constrained connectivity message? you may desire to additionally verify whether the router is assigning the IP addresses or the adapters are. start up > administration Panel > community Connections > correct click the adapter (LAN or on the spot, which ever is connected) > properties > scroll all the way down to TCP/IP adatper > properties try connecting the 2d pc with an ethernet cable. Disable the on the spot adapter (correct click it interior the sys tray and disable) and enable the LAN. If it works, then it maximum possibly is the two the IP or the protection settings.

reboot the modem and PC when you switch which pc is connected.

Reason - the isp associates the IP address they have assigned to the hardware (MAC) address of the PC. When you plug in, the ISP isn't supplying an IP address to your MAC address.

Go learn (dynamic host configuration protocol) DHCP to understand.

If her desktop is plugged into a router, you need to check to see if she has her router setup for dhcp.

If she does, or is plugged directly into the modem, then you need to check your laptop to make sure it gets addresses automatically instead of assigning it to your network card. (control panel, networking, tcp/ip properties.)

Did you restart your laptop? I've had a few of my customer's laptops wouldn't recognize the DSL/T1 cable because I didn't restart the system. After a quick restart, it worked like a charm ._.;
