I currently have my lap top connected to a desktop monitor. In order to keep the computer on, I must keep the lid to the lap top open, when i shut it to make more room on the desk the computer turns completely off. Is there a setting I can change to prevent this from happening when I'm connected to the desktop monitor?

Display Settings > Screen Saver tab. > Click on the Power button at the bottom. > In the Power Options Properties, click on the Advanced tab. > In the lower half of the screen there should be a section called Power Buttons. In the selection for "When I close the lid of my portable computer" click on the pull down tab and select "Do nothing"

Click on OK. Click on OK on the Display Properties.


Just remember to suspend/hibernate/turn off your laptop when you are done. Otherwise you will have a dead battery when you next try to use it.

Most laptops have a setting in BIOS for that. Another option thats cool with laptops is you can do a split screen and use both screens at once.

no. laptops go into a hibernation mode when closed. the only way around it is to put in a docking station, if your laptop supports it.
