Nothing--it's way more expensive--even the duty free shops.

From what I understand, the Japanese visitors to this country purchase many of these items here because it is less expensive than in Japan. Seems strange, but true.
I guess their standard of living probably pays a great part in this, and/or the money exchange rate.

It all really really really depends on where you look and buy.

On one hand, my boyfriend found himself a new DS Lite in Akihabara for about 13000yen (normal was 16800yen) and I snagged myself an iPod nano (Brand new) for US 170.00.
My situation was because this shop said that if you could present a passport with the visitor status, you would not have to pay tax at all. Top that with a 2-day special they had on the ipods (20000yen for a 4-gig model), wham.

You have to look really hard in electronic stores, mainly Akihabara. Most of the cheap stuff is in the alleys.

Not much, there's a higher standard of living in Japan, and things are typically more expensive. Since technology is their strong suit I would suggest that it maybe around our price but realize that they see electronics over there that we probably won't see for years.

Rokutu- What a racist prick you are. How many Japanese do we have in America? Do we tell them just come to visit you can't stay we don't like your kind? Anata wa baka desu.

Probably not much since you will have to ship the items back home.

Also keep in mind the conversion rate.

0 - billions of dollars depending on how much they wished to purchase and if it was cheaper in japan. if it was more expensive they would not save anything and would loose out on money.

you wouldn't be saving anything once you factor in conversion rates, the fact that all Japanese electronics are sold to Japanese electrical current(slower than US ) and all dials and whatnot will be in Japanese.
