We have a representative government and if the majority of Americans decide on taxes and government spending, then quit-yer-griping - it's not your money anymore.

I think that a well thought out Health Care reform that will provide every American with quality health care at a reasonable cost is possible. I am afraid, however, that the main necessary ingredients for the reform will be missed, among all the bickering that goes on.

You're a young socialist aren't you? Probably in college out west or up in the north east.

No matter how much I pay in taxes, which I don't mind paying within reason by the way. I look upon it as a service provided by my government. If I am dissatisfied, I should get my money back or be able to at least have a say on what it is spent on.

Line item veto's are exactly what we need to reign in the pork the government likes to include for people in congress to get them to vote one way or the other on other bills presented on the floor. Much like all the pork put into the Amnesty bill to get others to vote for it.

Saying that "it is not my money anymore" is akin to saying the Brits had the complete right to tax beyond reason without representation.

The bigger questions is why not? The majority of fianancial abuse within government comes from the "pork" put into bills to get legitamite legistlation passed. These "pork" measures are simiply costing the American people too much. A line item veto would assist with getting our spending back to within limits. It is no different than a persons own budget, it generally gets blown by spending that is not essential to the running of a household (ie Starbucks, eating out, lavish clothing, etc.).

We need the line item veto to clean up these bills. Remember, it is not a conservative thing, it works for the liberals too.

We can all find a poll to support our views. Unless they asked everyone in the country or put the issue up to a vote, it's really irrelevant. I've never been polled in my life! No one I know has ever been polled. Going after a select amount of random citizens is not a foolproof way of gaging the majority view.

As for taxes and line-item, all of the previous answers have taken the words right out of my mouth.

Excuse me, but many of those up there in Congress have not passed legislation that the people want. For example, most people do not want socialized healthcare, specific dates for pulling out of Iraq, or higher taxes. But yet the liberals in Congress keep putting those issues on the table. A line Item veto would help good legislation that has these stupid ammendments attached.

Says who? Have you any idea what people say in the countries that have national health care? And how much they pay for that terrible service?

We have relatives in England that say...."don't do it....we wait for months, while in pain....to get a simple hip operation....the health care is terrible! In France they pay huge taxes and still don't have good care....like we do here!

Leave our health care alone. If you want to improve the cost, get rid of all the lawsuits....and it will change overnight.

How I wish!

The tactics used by Congress to snatch money from our hands is not unlike the cartels of the world. Wherein the buyer is FORCED to buy more than they want, in order to get what they want.

I'd like to see what happens if all bills with earmarks were vetoed . . . maybe they'd stop slipping them in.

"a new transparent congress" . . . liars!

It is our money. And our reps were elected to spend our money according to our wishes, not their own.

I have every right to speak out about MY money.. :) What gives you the right to tell me to 'quit-yer-griping'????

I also have the option to quit working, which I plan on doing, should a socialist gets into office. Why should I pay for people who won't accept responsibility for themselves?

uh, sorry to burst your bubble, but IS still my money, and I DEMAND to know what it is being spent on.

Why do you think there is such a stink right now about "earmarks", those little "inclusions" that never see the light of day until AFTER the bills have been voted on? Our "rep's" think the same as you, it's no longer "our" money.

And that's the problem; when it isn't "your" money, who cares how it's spent?

I only WISH we did have a line item veto.

The fallacy of your argument is that taxes and government spending is not decided by the majority of Americans.
