First of all. The war would be over. Britain was the only Allie at the time of the battle of Britain.

Second, The Germans would have no problems with America for a while. The island of Britain was America's unsinkable aircraft carrier and supply depot for all of the invasions in the European Theater. The US would have to wait for the B-36 Peacemaker to be put into production to even think of attacking Berlin with a good payload and the British was a pain in their backside that launched commando raids, supplied and trained the French Resistance

The battle of Britain was an air battle, fought over the course of many days.

Without air superiority, Britain would have been at the mercy of the Luftwaffe. This means that they probably would have been subject to carpet bombing the way Germany was carpet bombed. This means that the loss of life would have been tremendous, and the worst case scenario is that Britain would not have had the resources to remain in Africa. Remember, the battle occured in 1940. Remember that the U.S did not declare war until December of 1941. If the allies had been pushed out of Africa, the United States would have had a much more difficult time taking Africa. Even if the war continued with that much more change, the lack of air superiority would have made an invasion from Britain impossible. The allies probably would have continued to press up into Italy. More ominously, the Soviet Union probably would have taken Germany before the allies could have liberated France or even Italy; The entire European continent save for England and part of Italy might have become a Soviet satellite.

Invading the Soviet Union was probably the biggest blunder of the entire war. the USSR was perfectly content invading countries like Finland or Poland, without the fear of global reprisal. Once invaded, it was being propped up by the United States (as Winston Churchill remarks in his memoirs, Stalin was playing Roosevelt "like a fiddle") and probably would have succeeded, which they were doing even as D-Day was launched. I think that the battle of Britain was probably the most decisive allied victory in the European campaign in the long term.

i love "what if" and "what would happen".

well..the smart Germans would have won the battle of Britain and bomb England into submission and as a result killing Churchill and most members of the royal family. This allow the Germans to finally invade and conquer the UK by land with air superiority.

With Britain out of the war, Germany gains vast resources, air fields, cold mines, the best dry docks in the world, complete control of the waters surrounding Europe, and new personnels who might want to defect to the "winning side".

As for the Soviets, they will eventually lose, as we haven't forgot, the Japanese are Germany's allies, they make good on their alliance. Thus Germany and Japan and Italy and axis ect. makes coordinated attacks into Soviet Russia.
Germany sweeping thru the west, Japan thru the east, Italy and the newly joined Turkey from the south. Russia is all but lost. Stalin is in a bunker in Moscow contemplating his capture. Should i let the Germans or the Japanese capture me. The Germans would let him live a little bit longer until they can have Hitler can gloat over him. The Japanese would probably use Stalin as bayonet practice. In the end tho, Stalin will commit suicide by vodka poisoning.

so who is to stand in the way of the axis now. Concentration camps are running at full capacity and the army is well fed and ready for action. But wait......, portals starts to open around the world and large Orcs appear. Blood thirsty green humanoids look alikes who uses magic. World of Warcraft .

Tricky, without total air superiority over the English channel, Germany would have been able to launch "Operation Sea lion", the axis invasion of the south coast of England.

Even if Sea lion had been implemented, an theoretical exercise at Sandhurst military college in 1974, using surviving WW2 British and German tacticians, showed that within one week the Wehrmacht would have been defeated.
The remainder of the RAF based away from the south coast would have flown south to counter attack the Luftwaffe, and support British regular forces with ground attack aircraft.

Various defensive positions, some enhanced natural features, others, man made with some dating back to the Napoleonic wars, would have slowed the German advance and caught various elements in elaborate traps, buying enough time for the army and navy to assemble and organize a massive counter attack.
Within 2 days of the invasion, the home fleet of the royal navy would have sailed from their safe anchorage at Scarpa flow and began attacking the German transport and supply ships. (Given the royal navy's vast numerical superiority). With the Wehrmacht, cut off from resupply the land forces would have moved in before the Germans reached London. (the surprise element of the exercise was the effectiveness of the home guard in guerrilla attacks ).

So is it possible that, had the Battle of Britain have swung the other way in 1940, there may have been an even earlier defeat of Germany...?

The Germans would still have had a problem. Britain was - at that time - building fighter planes faster than the Germans and had many pilots available who were not used. Had the German air force achieved anything like domination over the English channel thy would have had to consider whether or not to launch a land invasion - in the sure knowledge that the Royal Navy would intervene massively while the RAF would keep trying to re-enter the fight. That might still have looked like too dangerous a proposition - especially as the German air force would have been massively weakened. Interesting question about which much could be said.

Good question if not the best grammar. Had the false religion of the SS won out over the forces of democracy and freedom (symbolically speaking) you and I would be rebels meeting in an alley for merely using our power of imagination. The book 1984 is a good visualization of a long term dictatorship.

if germany would have successfully invaded britain, they probably wouldve continued on to iceland and won easily because of the little troops we had there. v2 rockets would have been installed and fired at major north american cites like new york, philadelphia, and some major canandian cities to. the war would have lasted longer too, because if hitler was preoccupied on going to iceland, he wouldnt have been worried about attacking the russians. life as we know it would be different.... probably speeking german, etc.
