Since women are not really fertile the entire month, is it really worth it to be chemically altered (hormonally crazy, in my case) for an entire month? Could one just take this pill on those days when ovulation approaches and temptation beat you down? Anyone here done this? If so, what were the effects?

Thanks for sharing

that would probably be a lot more expensive. and risky. your chance of getting pregnant would be a lot higher because unless you were strictly monitoring yourself, you're just guessing when to take it. even monitored, you could be misses some crucial times. there's even a small percentage of girls who have become pregnant while on their periods (though it's rare). stick with the daily dose. but if they make you crazy...condoms? diaphragms? have you tried the little...i don't know what it's caled...it's a tiny (looks liek a pogo stick) your gyno puts into place and it prevents pregnancy for several months before having to be replaced...no hormones needed

It covers you for the one act. Not for days of subsequent planned acts after you take it. If you delay taking it so your boyfriend can go without condoms for a couple of days, the pills become less effective every day you delay. It's not nearly as effective as regular birth control or condoms, even though the hormone dose is high. That's why it's supposed to be for EMERGENCIES. Plan B is 89% effective at best. That means you have a one in ten chance of getting pregnant anyway, as opposed to one in 50 with a condom and one out of one hundred on birth control pills. Taking it is better than doing nothing, if you have an accident, but it's certainly nothing to depend on.

It'd be expensive and possibly dangerous. Plan B is basically birth control on speed -- same hormones, just LOTS more of it. It's hard on your body and could have long-term effects we don't know about yet, if you use it as your primary method of birth control. The Pill, on the other hand, is one of the safest reversible methods of BC for women. If you can't take the Pill, I wouldn't think your body would handle Plan B much better. Try a barrier method -- maybe a diaphragm w/ spermicide and condoms? Whatever you decide, good luck, and be safe!

At risk of echo-ing everyone elses answer, im gonna tell u that the ec (plan b) pill is like bc on crack. Its a much higher dose of a bc pill that should be taken only if there is truely a need. It is tough on ur body, and can cause some tough side effects. Not to mention, the method that ur describing is pretty much the 'calendar' method, where one tries to prevent pregnancy by clocking her ovulation, avoiding sex or using a form of bc only when shes ovulating. You can get pregnant anytime of the month because you never know if there is a egg in your fallopian (sp?) tube. Therefore, what ure describing is not only a risk to your health, it probably wouldnt be too effective. Try the Nuvaring, best BC out there! If you want details, e-mail me.

Happy humping!!!

ps. ec side effects like nausea and severe cramping, not to mention moodiness...
