Dear Parent,
I accidently cut my 1 month old baby while cutting his nails.
The cut is small but I think big for a baby!
Does anyone out there have the same bad experience like me.
Because he is only 1 month old, I do not know can he use iodine and etc!!
Now I just use 75% alcohol to clean the wound and cover that finger with a cloth.
If any one out there ever had a 1 month old baby with the same experience hope you can share with me!
Thanks,
Worried Parent

The cut has a lot of bleeding
I manage to stop the bleeding.
But I do not know what to do next.
He is one month old.
I do not know what medicine to use and do not know what to do to treat his wound.
Hope someone can share details with me if they ever have the same bad experience.

it happens! Just hold the finger with a clean cloth until it stops bleeding. Give your baby a kiss and tell him you're sorry.

Been there done that. No worries. If it's really bad, take baby to your Ped and let them look at it. It should heal up pretty quickly. Right now, I'd just put a small band-aid on it. A one month old isn't going to be putting their finger in their mouth so infection isn't really a huge concern.
Next time you want to clip fingernails, bite them off. It's safer because you can feel the babies skin and you don't have the risk of the clippers cutting that tender skin.
Don't feel bad, lots of us have accidentally done this before. :0) The skin grows back fast because they are so small and there really aren't any adverse problems. Just keep it clean and it will be fine.

Don't worry too much about it. This happens alot.
Keep an eye out for infection and bleeding - double check with your doctor's office/nurse on whether you should keep it covered or let it develop a scab. My doc always said to use alcohol and nothing else on babies but yours may have a different opinion. It should heal very quickly. With my son, after 3 days it looked so much better - he had a scar for a little while. He's now 5 and there is no sign that this ever happened.

I'm going to go out on a limb here & say this is your first baby? Things happen to babies - just like things happen to us. We seem to very paranoid with our first babies but I'm sure he's okay. If he isn't excessively bleeding, or constantly screaming or the cut looks infected or anything - these are things you may want to be concerned about. But if he doesn't seem to care & it's bleeding only a little & it's clean & healthy looking then you have nothing to worry about. I know a lot of parents who waited a long time between nail cuttings because it made them nervous & waiting is okay - just put a pair of his socks over his hands so he doesn't cut himself. Good luck!

Next time don't use clippers. Either bite the nail off, peel it or use a emery board. Babies nails are so soft that you don't really need to use actual clippers. As for the cut I wouldn't use alcohol cause it will burn. Just put some neosporin on it and a band-aid, but make sure that you cover your baby's hand so that he doesn't put his hand into his mouth and choke on the band-aid.

Accidents happen. If the cut is not deep, put neosporin on it and a band aid. You can always call the pediatrician with these type of questions. They take calls 24 hrs a day, and often have a nurse that can also answer questions. Don't be shy to call.

I did that ...dont worry it will heal fine....after i did that I went to biting my sons nails so it wouldnt happen again and I did that until he turned one...now I am back to using the clippers....There is no need to put anything else on the wound just check it every day and make sure an infection isnt starting, but it shouldnt b/c your baby doesnt go play in dirt or anything and just wash it w/ baby soap and water when bathing....
it will be ok...dont worry I know plenty other mothers who have done the same!!

I would just cover it until it stops bleeding. Don't put anything on it, cause he might put his finger in his mouth.
Don't feel bad, those tiny nails are hard to clip, and the skin is soooooo sensitive. I did the same thing to my oldest once, and it healed fine.
Jus use a soft cloth and water and it should be fine.
