why did cbs go after katie couric so aggressively when russ mitchell and john roberts were there?

i heard they mortgaed cbs to get her and i hate her and diane swayer both,, now i watch nbc and miss dan and walter

They were more interested in name recognition. They could have done a lot better. The cable networks are grabbing the real talent like Bill Hemmer and Kiran Chetrie.
I think they also screwed up by replacing Katie with Meredith on the Today Show. Their weekend show is better.

I don't understand either, Do you know if John Roberts left CBS for CNN because of this? It appears to me that many stations hire from other stations rather than to advance those already there.
