The head gasket will run you about $5 bucks. The labor consists of just unplugging 4 of your distributor cables if it's a 4 cylinder, and 6 if it's a 6 cylinder. Then after they'd remove 4 screws from the head of the motor, then they'd swap the head gasket, then they'd rescrew the gasket and plug the cables back in and the job is done. It's so easy a caveman can do it. They'll run you about $40 average. Good luck!!!!!!

Depends on how much you really want to keep a 20 year old car running? Head gaskets fail and if fixed right every one is happy. If the car overheated several times and head gasket is replaced everyone will not be happy. Oil consumption will go up rings cannot seal if weaken by over heating cyl heads can crack too. Some times just have a little funeral for your old buddy and GO NEW NEW NEW CAR SHOPPING!!!

Put some stop leak in the radiator and sell it. The problem is the engine is a wet sleeve design and the sleeves sink into the block and do not seal at the head gasket, also if the engine overheated it is pretty much junk. You can replace one head gasket for about $800.00 bucks and then sell it immediately, because the head gasket will blow again. Or just replace the entire engine with rebuilt one for about $1500-2000.

i think if it was working all over these years,it will be more convenient to change it .
but if it`s good and able to move you can repair it because after a while it will be classic car.
and they will but high prices to having it.
good luck man!!!!
