Or in my case, *days* like this.

I can't sleep, and when I do get to sleep, I don't stay asleep. I eat maybe once a day (I'm just not hungry). One minute I'm deliriously happy and full of energy, the next I'm half asleep and I feel this sense of dread, like those closest to me are in danger, and it makes me worry about them.

And no, I'm not bipolar. I have been to a neurologist and have a disease, but dammit, this sucks. What the hell am I supposed to do to keep sane? Any suggestions besides consuming large amounts of alcohol and drugs, which I refuse to do? Anyone know of some good books to read, movies to watch, ways to relax so I could get some sleep? Anything???

Well, elgil, obviously all isn't fine and dandy, or else I wouldn't be asking for opinions, now would I? Thanks for your useless answer, though.

Everyone else, thanks for your advice. I do meditate and do yoga. Isn't helping, though.

You may not be bipolar but what you are describing certainly sounds like anxiety!

Signs and symptoms
The signs and symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder can vary in combination or severity. They may include:

Restlessness
Feeling of being keyed up or on edge
Feeling a lump in your throat
Difficulty concentrating
Fatigue
Irritability
Impatience
Being easily distracted
Muscle tension
Trouble falling or staying asleep (insomnia)
Excessive sweating
Shortness of breath
Stomachache
Diarrhea
Headache

Self-care
These tips may help reduce your anxiety:

Take action. Determine what's making you anxious and address it. For example, if finances are your concern, draw up a budget.
Let it go. Don't dwell on past concerns. Change what you can and let the rest take its course.
Break the cycle. When you feel anxious, take a brisk walk or delve into a hobby to refocus.
Take care of yourself. Get enough rest, eat a balanced diet, exercise and take time to relax. Avoid caffeine and nicotine, which can worsen anxiety. Don't turn to alcohol or unprescribed drugs for relief.
Talk to someone. Share your problems with a friend or professional counselor who can help you gain perspective.

The day I stored 21 individuals from crashing right into a semi truck head on, on a greyhound bus travel

Have you tried Yoga, Mediation, Tai Chi or going to an alternative medicine or applied kinesiology practitioner?

I had days and weeks like that before and I no longer have them.

If the neurologist suggested drug therapy perhaps you should do as instructed until you can search for other alternatives.

Maybe try some physical exercise to wear yourself down so that you can sleep and it will also increase your appetite so that you can eat on a more regular basis.
