AV software that is outdated will NOT protect you against new viruses.
It has been stated that 10,000 new viruses are created and discovered every year - this figure may be conservative if one includes spyware and spybots.
AVG is the best one to use if you do not want to pay.
I suggest you replace your McAffee with AVG, and have total peace of mind.

If your subscription runs out, you will no longer have Norton antivirus protection. You must either renew it or get something else. And if you get something else, you need to get the Norton removal tool and remove Norton. It is very difficult to uninstall, so you'll need the special removal tool. I don't know what Symantec Cooperation Edition 10 is, but if you are referring to Symantec CORPORATE Edition 10, it has a big problem. Attackers could launch malicious code to gain system-level privileges by exploiting a flaw in Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10, Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based eEye Digital Security Inc. has warned in an advisory. I see absolutely no need to pay either Symantec or Norton for their big, oversized, cumbersome and memory-hogging programs, when two of the best antivirus programs available today are free. Avast 4-Home (I've used it 5+ years), and AVG 7.5.

Boy are you off target.
New bugs come out each day. You MUST keep your virus protection updated or you will likely regret it.
I have no personal experience with your free virus protection - but many ISPs now offer complementary virus protection with a paid subscription. Most of the ISPs use a major virus protection software product.
Never go without virus protection

If you don't like paying for a subscription go with AVG Free. It works in real time and can be set to update automatically and to scan as well. Get it at free.grisoft.com. Don't go without an up to date AV. It is truly a bad idea.

First i would dump Mcafee, i hate that antivirus. If you looking for a good free antivirus then yes AVG is a good choice. Not receiving updates for your antivirus is a issue not only for the computer but for anything your doing on the internet. There is no such thing as being careful anymore.
