I think it's highly unlikely. He's a fantastic hitter, but to expect him to keep up that pace through age 40 is asking a lot. Only Paul Molitor and Sam Rice have even had 200-hit seasons past age 38, and Rice is the only 40-year-old to ever do it. That's not to say Ichiro is incapable, but you're asking for maximum performance for another seven years, and not allowing any room for injury or an off season.
Ichiro also relies on his speed to beat out a number of infield singles each year, and I doubt he'll be able to keep that great speed for another seven years. As amazing an athlete as he is, time catches up even to the best.
Even if he falls short, I think Ichiro will do enough to earn himself a spot in Cooperstown.

It's possible, but no- I don't think it will happen. He would have to keep going the pace he's going for many more years to have a shot. If he had played his entire career over here, and never played in Japan, he might have had a better shot. It's not out of the question, but he would have to stay healthy for the rest of his career. I don't think Pete Rose's hit record is one of the unbreakable record in baseball- eventually someone will come along who plays for a very long time, is very talented, and doesn't get injured. I agree with you that if there is anyone playing in the game today who has a shot, it's Ichiro. I am going to take a wild guess and say he will play 11 more seasons and finish with 3,775 hits

hes gonna smoke past 3000. I'm gonna go as far as he passes a should be hall of famer, charlie hustle, but he is gonna get over 3000 hits and heres why. He's not even 30 yet, he hits over 200 hits a year or close, he beats out infield hits consistantly, he has that softball flip of the bat that drops behind third and left that no one will ever figure out how to catch that ball because the 3rd baseman has to play in for Ichiro in case he drops a slapper down the line. Since he is a lefty its easier for him to beat out infield hits and thats gonna add up in the next few years. He might do it before 40 which would be a huge feat but i said he might theres no guarantee but I do feel that Ichiro will get to 3000 hits

Ichiro is 33 now.
He came into the season with about 1500 MLB hits.
Even if he plays 7 seasons at 200 hits, he would still be 100 short.
He would have made it if he had started in MLB, but those lost years eliminate him from seriously making a run at it. Age and injuries will eventually catch him.

Adam Dunn has a better chance of drawing 100 walks, striking out 35 times, and batting .300 than Ichiro ever reaching 3000 hits.

Yea, I agree. I mean ever since he joined the MLB, it seems he is always getting atleast 200 hits a year. He's a good possibility for 3000 hits and lots of steals. (possibly 500)

No. As great of a hitter as he is, he got too late of a start in MLB to achieve that feat. You would have to average 200 hits per year for 15 years to reach that goal.

He'll make it easily. He's probably the fastest guy in the majors, plus he's one of the best contact hitters of all-time. If Craig Biggio can do it, Ichiro will have no problem.

He will have 3,000....until I see a season where he doesn't have at least 200 hits I am convinced he will reach 3,000 with ease.
