(continued) I seperated my male and female bets using a divider, if I want to breed them is this the best way for my fish to get used to eachother? The male keeps flaring at my female. He makes bubbles. The female seems to want to get closer to him but I'm not sure the male wants to breed with her because he is flaring at her. But then again he is making bubbles... mabe he wants to mate?

That can work, but only if both are in breeding condition and this is occuring in the breeding tank. You need to very carefully research betta breeding, have all the materials (including the special foods for the fry) and know exactly what you would do with the bebies assuming they live BEFORE you put they together for breeding.

What sixe tank are they in? Also what else is in the tank such as gravel, plants, etc. You need to have a seperate tank for breeding. And then also a tank for the pair after breeding with a divider that they can't see through. There is more to breeding Betta's than just placing them in the breeding tank. You have to have food set up for the fry. Males blowing bubbles could be that he does want to mate, but it could also mean he is just happy in his home. If you haven't researched this type of fish and how they breed then you will more than likely end up with a hurt or dead fish.

The males show off to females exactly the same way that they show off to males. The males build a bubble nest at the surface of the water so having plants or decorations that are tall enough to reach the surface is absolutely necessary! That will anchor the nest so it doesn't fall apart. The courtship is very rough and hard on the females so it is recommended that you put one male in with at least two females. Once she lays eggs he will scoop them up one by one in his mouth and put them in the nest, then HE is the one who takes care of them. At that point you need to remove the female so she can recover and not keep getting pestered by him while he is guarding the eggs.
