Any Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or Personal Pocket Computer (PPC) with internet capabilities and a mobile email application or mobile browser (if your email service has a mobile website) will do the trick. You will also need the internet service to sync / check your email.
Also, any smart phone (motorola Q, iPhone, blackberry, etc...) will typically come with this software.

you can get a wireless adapter and a wireless card to go in your laptop. the only thing is you can only do this if you are in a wi-fi area and most of those places will charge you to get on the internet. another option is to buy a card from a cell phone company. I know that both verizon and at&t sell wireless cards. you have to pay for it just like a cell phone plan. but you don't have to worry about being in a wi-fi area. good luck!

It would be helpful if you indicated what you have now.
If you have a notebook pc it may already be capable of accessing wireless networks. If it lacks this capability, you can purchase a pcmcia wireless card and this will enable your notebook to access wireless networks.
I presume this is what you wanted to know.

I can't believe no one said the iPhone which has both wifi and a cell connection. To bad it's not a high speed cell connection and of course you have to me tethered to AT&T.

Most newer phones will do it.
Consider upgrading to one (or your existing one might already do it).
