I'm looking to get back into the MMO games since my Everquest days 7 years ago but I'm not looking to spend money every month again. I know Guild Wars doesnt' come close to World of Warcraft...but is it still fun and good?

I love the game. I think you'll find that it's comparable to WOW. There are a lot of folks that will tell you GW Sucks and WoW is the greatest game ever!!! And there are a lot of folks that will tell you WoW sucks and GW is the greatest game ever!!! I don't know which camp you'll eventually fall into. You'll have to decide that for yourself.

I enjoy GW because of the wonderful graphics. There's always plenty to do and I don't usually have problems finding people to group with. You can do most missions and quests with friends, random PUGs, or solo with NPC henchies and heroes.

Some of the main differences about GW are the instanced areas and the level cap. Once you leave town, you are in an instanced area. This is your own private copy of the world. Outside of town you will not encounter other players except those in your own team.

The level cap is nice for casual players. It does not take a great amount of time to reach Level 20, however that does not mean your character is done. You still have a lot of learning to do.

The PvP action in GW is based mainly on player skill rather than who has the best equipment. You can buy a cheap sword with the same fighting ability as a very expensive rare skinned sword. When you go into one of the PvP arenas, you can expect your opponents to all have the best equipment. The good players are separated from the bad ones by the skills they have chosen to bring into the arena and their skill in using those skills. There are over 1500 skills to be learned in the game and you can only bring 8 with you into battle. Choose carefully.

Best of all, no monthly fee and you should be able to pick up a copy of one of the games for about $30 now. So, I'd encourage you to try the game and see if you like it. If you don't, you can always quit and buy WoW.

I enjoyed it while i played it, but after upgrading to WoW i don't think i can go back. It's really a different system. In guild wars you can change practically everything about your character except his main class at any time you want, for free (usually). The only time you interact with other players is in towns, which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. You don't have to fight people over some monsters to kill, but outside town you barely feel like you are playing a MMORPG. You are limited to 8 skills "equipped" at a time, and this can either feel limiting or just another part of strategy. Another thing is the level cap is set at 20, so you reach it not even a quarter through the game.

So, i liked it while i played it (and it was free monthly which is nice), but after playing WoW as well id highly recommend getting WoW instead. It is the ultimate MMORPG.

I personally dont like it. Heres why. In all other MMORPGs you could go questing and find someone doing the same quest as you, say "HEY WATS UP, WANNA GROUP?" and youve got yourself a group. Getting a group in guild wars borders on tiresome, as you have to be in a major town. As soon as you leave the town, you have everything outside the town/city to yourself, and its like noone else exists. Is that an mmorpg? NO, IT ISNT. I know, it may seem like having the world to yourself is good, but at higher lvls. (i played till 20, which is the highest) having the world to yourself is very very very annyoing, cuz you have to kill things very slowly to finish your quests. Dont get it, id recommend talking a friend into getting and playing on his, you may like it, but i doubt you will. I hope i talked you into doing the right thing :)

Guild Wars is being developed by ArenaNet, a subsidiary of NCsoft. Rather than have a continuous beta ArenaNet hold Beta weekends, where pre-ordered players and invited friends are allowed to test the game. This weekend was one such event and I was lucky enough to be invited along.
I hope the site can help u
