We don't have a lot of money, but i think we have a much better chance of winning and getting the whole process done faster if we have a lawyer.

My mom paid about $4,000 for an uncontested divorce (no prenup) with no custody battles for children...

My parents live in FL

My lawyer charged me 2000.00 up front. We went through the proceedings and we agreed upon everything. After all was said and done he sent me a check for 900.00 for the time he did not use. Now, in a divorce things can get ugly. A co-worker of mine had a long drawn out ugly divorce that cost him 10,000 dollars. It all depends....you should talk to your spouse and get everything agreed upon before you get a lawyer, or at least as much as you can agree upon.
Custody is a different story that involves child support, who can provide for the child better. Im currently going through that now because I feel she is not providing the proper care for my daughter. This is costly because there are children involved.

It depends in what state you live in, so let me know . I work for a attorney. ok it should cost you around 1,000 its always better to agree on everything it always comes out cheaper. the process should take about 60-90 days for a divorce to be finalized and custody is included in the petition. hope this helps.lisa

Most custody lawyers will work on a payment plan. If you don't have a lot of money just ask them if they will work some sort of plan together to get you in the door.

That would depend on the lawyer. When I divorced my wife after being locked out it cost me close to 900 dollars making sure all the T's were crossed .

It varies. Often they are able to offer you terms for payment. You can call the bar association in your area and ask them. Part of it depends on how complex your case is.

The important part is to find one that you like and stick with him / her. I knew a woman who changed attorneys 3 times over a period of 3 years. And do you know what? Her husband had found a way to conceal his assets by the time that they went to court! Can you imagine that?

$225.00 and hour.

Uncontested divorce, no arguments, no qdro, no kids - $350 - $2500

With kids, qdro, no arguing $2500-$5000
Most other combos of kids, arguing, qdro's also

Custody battles $10,000 - $30,000(most like there will be a guardian ad litem which is essentially a seaparate lawyer for the children involved)
