What I want to know is...should I disclose to everyone I am pregnant before or after the interview. There is a great chance I will get the position because I have been helping the department out with the same work I would be doing just to be nice. I have already worked in that department but that was when I was a temp. Now I am permanent and this is a bump up. Big raise, could really use it.

Oops, let me add a little more info. The position I am interviewing for is with the City and that is also where my current job is, just for a different department. The department I would be going to keeps a good number of temps, admins, and assistants in the office to help everyone so when I would be out there would def be help. Plus the new boss just had a baby (I even went to her shower) so did a couple other women in that department. So I feel it would be a good working mom environment.

Do not tell anyone. It is illegal to discriminate, but you DO live in the real world. People will, and you are shooting yourself in the foot.
When it becomes apparent, you might say,"yes, I am" and then change the subject, to let them know you are not going to use it to take time off, to whine or be catered to. You ae not SICK! You are doing the biological thing to do. It is no one's business, except yours and daddy's.
Take your new position, and go with it.
Good luck on all fronts.

It really is up to you if you choose to discolse your pregnancy or not at this stage. It really depends on the type of industry you are in and if you will be able to competently continue your job until you go onto leave. If you are in a role where harm could come to the child by doing your job, please let them know immediately (such as a police officer or construction worker) so your duties can be adjusted accordingly.

Whenever you do choose to disclose your pregnancy (at your current role within the company or potentially this new role), you will likely be faced with a number of questions regarding the length of time you will be off work, if you will be coming back full time or part time after the baby and how this will effect your performance especially if you are working in a team environment.

I believe at 11 weeks pregnant though, no one judge you for keeping your pregnancy personal until your are further long and have a reduced risk of miscarriage.

I informed my boss of my pregnancy at 16 weeks pregnant due to the type of job I do (occasional lifting of heavy items) so that I could ask for assistance when needed.

I was 12 weeks when I got hired into a new position. I didn't tell anyone until I was 20 weeks. Then I got some really rude questions that I didn't expect.... like "Well what are you going to do"?(meaning keep it or get an abortion) "Are you still with the father"? "Is he going to help"?
I just couldn't believe this lady had the nerve to ask me these questions. :-0

Get the job then worry about telling them. The do discriminate and there isn't much you can do about it. So I suggest waiting! Good Luck and Congrats!!

They can not discriminate you because you are pregnant. I think I would go to the interview not tell them, see if you get the job and if you do, then tell them pretending that you just found out yourself. < you are still early and some people don't even know they are until 2 two 3 month in> If they (after telling you that you got the job) say that they have someone else) go after them for discrimination.

After reading the new info, Maybe you could tell them because you already work there they need to find somebody to replace you after you go on materity leave anyway. Good luck!

I don't know if you are obligated to inform your employer in this situation. I know there are federal laws to protect pregnant women from losing their jobs. If you are being asked to interview for this new position, then it shows that your employer thinks highly of you. If you plan on staying with the company and returning to work after the baby is born, then it might be best to inform them now. If your pregnancy has been uneventful up to this point, then there's no reason to think you would have any problems. You are almost through your first trimester, which is a good sign there are no problems. I think your employer would appreciate your honesty be upfront with them. I worked full time up until the day I delivered with my last pregnancy at age 36 and I'm going to do the same with this one at age 38. Many women do it with no problems. Good luck with your pregnancy, baby and hopefully new job!

Well go through the interview, but I would wait a while before telling anyone.. Get yourself established in the position. Are you planning on working until your due date? You are still pretty early- so I would wait at least another month. Then tell your boss and hopefully they are willing to work with you.. Maybe give you an assistant to help/learn so that during your leave things dont' get too difficult... Good luck

Funny but true story....I went on an interview when I was 6 mths pregnant with my son....and I had time finding a job...because of my condition. I got the job! Funny, thing is...the guy that hired me...thought I was fat! He didn't realize that I was pregnant until...I mentioned my plans after delivery. Everyone else knew, but him....

I wouldn't say anything until afterwards....they really don't have a right to ask you either....

Congrats...and I hope you get the job!!!

if you are going to work for the same company then i wouldn't say anything until i got the position...11 weeks is not that long and you can play it off as if you didn't know yet at the time they asked you for the interview...remember that a baby is going to cost you a pretty penny and if you have the chance to get a better position then go for it...

You should go to the interview and see if you get the job...If so take it and then tell them later that you are pregnant. People shouldnt think twice about hiring you just because you're pregnant but they often do so keep it to yourself until you are in the door.

They can't deny hiring you because you are pregnant. That is discrimination. It's entirely up to you, but I would wait until after the interview and hiring to make sure that your pregnancy doesn't effect their decision.
