I'm 17 and heading to college next year in New York City. I'm undecided about exactly what I want to do with my life, but I really want to give acting a shot. If anyone knows of any acting/theater workhshops, reputable agents or auditions coming up in the Manhattan area it would be much appreciated.

Hi,

this question comes up multiple times daily. If you do a search here on answers you will see other answers to this question. I answer this question a lot and so instead of writing the same or similar answers, I have created a 28-page ebooklet that answers pretty thoroughly your question.
Just go to http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/acs-blog.html , sign in on the right side of the page and you can download it for free. It's called: What It Takes To Become An Actor.

The second resource you might want to have a look at is this page: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/how_to_get_an_agent.html . It takes you through a process that I used to get two agents and a personal manager in a short period of time.

You can also submit yourself for auditions. I use www.actorsaccess.com and www.nycastings.com regularly. They have very good service and you get access to good projects.

Also, you might head down to NYFA (New York Film Academy). There are a lot of students down there your age who are dying to have someone to act in their projects. No pay, but that's ok. You get some experience.

In the ebooklet you will see some other resources and a school where I study to help you along.

Hope this helps!

Subscribe to Ross Reports, Get Brian O'Neil's book, Acting as a Business. Unless you are prepared to work really, really hard to get a job, forget the whole thing. Professional Acting is not something to be dabbled in.
