Ok, so my doctor said I could go ahead and try the castor oil thing. But he said he has never seen it work. Now he didn't mention anything about getting sick, or being in the bathroom all day. My mom did it and said she never got sick, and my grandma did it and never told me that it made her sick. Now I don't know what to do because at first I was totally against my mom when it came to castor oil and now my doctor said to go ahead and try it. I don't know what to do. I am so confused that I am crying. I am 38 weeks and 4 days, and my doc said that if I don't dialated more by Monday he was going to induce me anyways. Is that why he might of said to try it? HELP.......plus I don't know what to do......what the quote, unquote "recipes" are for it. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Castor oil won't make you go into labor unless you are totally ready anyway. It can help clean you out and prevent diarrhea during labor, but don't drink it right when you're going in, that would have the opposite effect. You basically mix the oil 50/50 with juice, I think. The bottle should say. It's a very mild tasting oil, not as bad to drink as you think. When I took it, I was on the toilet a couple times during the night and did'nt go into labor for another week.
I would advise you not to give in too easily to your doc's desire to induce unless there is some issue like high blood pressure or something making it necessary. Inducing gives you extremely hard contractions that are more painful than they should be. It also makes it more likely that you will have complications such as need for c-section, although your doc may not admit it.
Another thing you can try to get labor going naturally is nipple stimulation. It sounds wierd, but it's really not. You sort of twist and massage in the same motion that a baby would use while nursing and it will stimulate contractions. It takes at least ten minutes or so. If the contractions don't stop shortly after you stop massaging (maybe a half hour or so) or if the contractions start getting stronger, then you are probably going into real labor. If it doesn't work, try it again later or the next day. If nothing else, it will help prime your body for the real thing.

Why does the doctor want to induce you so soon before your due date? Pitocin is no joke. You don't have to go.

I took castor oil for my first two and it worked just fine because the doc wanted to induce me on my due date, but I still felt that a natural labor would be better for the baby and better for me. On the third I decided that I was just going to wait for the baby, after all have you ever heard of a baby that just never came out? Guess what, he came 10 days early!!!

On the second one the nurses even left me a message wondering why didn't I come in to be induced! I thought it was pretty funny.

The reason the doc said it never works is that the moms don't tell him about it if it works. Only the disappointed ones.

What I always did was to put 4 tablespoons of Castor oil into an ice cream shake that I made in the blender and then chug it down. You can't taste the oil but you can feel it.

Some people mix it with a large serving of ice cold orange juice.

When I did it I pooped some but not too much. I believe that is the mistake people make is that they take too much.

With my second daughter I had labor all night the first night but the contractions never got strong enough to push her out so I didn't go to the hospital. I took it again the next night and she was born with 3 hours of labor.

I tried the Castor oil twice with the same pregnancy. Did not work either time. It causes you to use the bathroom more which is what makes one use the muscles down there and is supposed to get things moving. I wish I would have just waited and been induced. To be induced was just much more comfortable. They start you on the meds and as you progress they can start giving you the meds so that you are unable to feel the contractions as much then the full blown epi. I was much more comfortable from beginning to end when I was induced then going at the "normal" way.

Hope this helps and good luck and CONGRATS!!!!

First of all I have rarely heard it work. It may make you have a lot of diarrhea though so be careful and don't go anywhere. Second, you are not even 40 weeks yet - what is the hurry? I have had 2 kids so yes I know that it is uncomfortable, but if the baby isn't ready then just relax. Tell your doctor that you don't want to be induced unless you go way over your due date or the baby is in distress. In a normal, healthy pregnancy where the baby is under its due date and there is not fetal distress there is no need to induce unless the doctor simply wants to make it easy for his schedule. Induction labor can be much harder and longer so take caution and speak your mind befor letting your doctor pressure you into it.

Why are you being induced before the 40 weeks? Castor oil doesn't help with contractions or dialating.. It basically just cleans your body out hence why you would be in the toilet alot. If I was you I would just wait and let nature do it's thing.. If by the time you haven't dialated then let them induce you. Last thing you want is to be sick before giving birth.. GL

Castor oil is useless, and it is like eating a lipstick. All you will get is a bad case of diarrhea. If you really want to go into labor, try taking a long walk, or doing some heavy housework and cleaning, also, I have been told that using a breast pump can stimulate labor as well.

I tried the Castor oil thing, and it didn't work. Try walking on a tread mill for 5 miles about 2.9 to 3.1 miles per hour. I was in labor about and hour later. Walking is the best thing to do, but at a fast pace. Good luck, I remember how uncomfortable it is being that pregnant.

A more fun way to get labor started is to have unprotected sex,as the sperm stimulates labor somehow. Plus, castor oil is really gross, and for most women I kow that tried it, all it odes is make them sick, and the labor doesn't kick in at all.
Try sex, it's much more fun.

If he's going to induce you anyway, why bother? On the other hand, the labor induced is a normal one vs. a pitocin drip, so perhaps that is why you are choosing this method. Not for me to make that decision!

However, here is a link with a tip.
