I love to take the bus, and often do on mid-length trips because my car would be more expensive.
Get there early, not quite as early as you would for a plane, but early enough that you have plenty of time to check your stuff. Remember that, unlike an airline, you will have to carry all your stuff, even the checked stuff, up until the point that your luggage is stowed away underneath, so don't over-pack.
Don't bring too much stuff on the bus -- it's usually crowded. The closer you are to the head of the line, the more choice of seats you have; I like to sit midway back on the side away from the bathroom and next to the window so I can lean my head back and sleep. Bring headphones. If you're prone to carsickness at all, bring some kind of anti-nausea stuff with you.
Above all, enjoy your trip!

Yes don't travel too far the bus driver did not stop at any places for the passengers to bathe. We all smelled like funk after traveling to Florida. I went to Florida four days after Katrina hit and the planes was not going to the Florida due to the bad weather conditions so I had to ride the bus and never ever again will I travel on the bus. I also took the bus to Vegas. That was o.k. I live in Los Angeles.
The people were crazy and the ride was so slow boring and long. It was crowded and no room to get comfortable.

Use caution and common sense with the strangers you will be around. Don't over pack. Take along a snack. Food at bus stops are expensive. Get to the bus station an hour early and get in line so you can choose your seat. Don't sit over the bus wheels, these seats tend to be rough riding. Don't carry alot of money or keep your purse tied to you. Have fun.

It takes longer as the bus tends to stop at every little town along the way. Bus depots in the larger cities tend to be a bit scary so do not spend a lot of time in the lounges if you can avoid it. The trip itself is pleasant as you can read, relax , watch the scenery. You do not have the stress of driving to be concerned about........

My mother didn't like driving freeways when we were children. We took lots of weekend trips on Greyhound buses. Never had any problems. Think some of the depots kinda concerned my mom, she really kept a close eye on us sometimes. Just be aware of your surroundings and you shouldn't have a problem.

Some of the strangest, nastiest, coolest, most real people I ever met I met on cross country bus trips. If he acts like a sleeze, he's definately at LEAST a sleeze. She will reach in your backpack while you're sleeping. Pack some extra toilet paper, snacks, gum and make up some wonderful adventure tale to share with your fellow travelers. Have fun, be safe.

there are usually alot of very sketchy and weird people on those as far as my experiences go. they are nice if you dont want to drive. Hopefully the bus won't be full so you dont have to sit by some weirdo. Bring a handheld game or headphones on the ride.

It's a very slow trip. Takes a lot longer than the same length trip would in a car.
