1. They can't record your passwords.

2. It is possible for someone to hack in if you're not protected by a software or hardware firewall.

3. You can trace the signal but if they're broadcasting an unsecured signal then it's pretty much open.

Just get a firewall if you don't have one to protect yourself.

Computers most often don't want wifi nevertheless it is dependent how it is hooked up. Places wherein you could uncover unfastened wifi hotspots and McDonald's, Burger King (a few), Starbucks, your neighborhood library, and a few eating places/ cafes. To reply your query approximately connecting your iPod Touch to the pc with the USB wire, yeah, that is satisfactory too.

The folks whose wifi signal your hitching onto would have to be pretty sophisticated users in order to hack your information. Since they left their wifi access point sitting wide open, odds are they aren't very sophisticated. So I wouldn't be to worried.

Look at their SSID, sometimes people use personal information in the SSID that would enable you to figure out who they are. If they took the default - such as Linksys or Netgear - then odds are you can't. If you did find them, odds are they will figure out how to turn security on for the wifi connection and you will be SOL.
