you know when u have a picture for your desktop background...and u have desktop icons..(obviously)..but behind the names for the icons is like a box..with a totally different colour that your background...how do i remove it so that the names and icons appear on the picture? not like cutting a part of it

Control Panel / System / Advanced / Performance Tab / Settings Button and put a checkmark in: Use Drop Shadows for Icon Labels on the Desktop

(*I HOPE* I understand what you mean, otherwise you will get angry and thumbdown my answer!)

The icon and the word are separate birds, in that you can display one or the other or both...When creating the icon (like, say, with ICOFX) you can create the background of the icon as a transparent color. In SOME graphics programs, like Gimp, this is called an "alpha channel". (Whatever!)

It becomes transparent and lets the background show through when you save the icon. You have to remember to save the icon that way (as I often forget to do) or else the icon shows up as a purdy picture with a box behind it.

Most of the icon creation programs I use have a separate "paintbrush color" for the transparent background.

Start, Setting, Control Panel, Dislay, Click Tab for Desktop and change to which one that you want.

right click on your desktop choose properties and there you are, pick from any desktop or browse pictures
