The rarest & most valuable penny is the 1909 S VDB, (not VBD). VDB stands for the initials of the man who designed the coin - Victor David Brenner. There was a 1909 D VDB & A 1909 VDB without a prefix letter designation, But the 1909 S VDB is the prise of any penny collection.

Excluding any mistake pennies, meaning ones that have been double stamped and things like that. Most likely it would be the 1909-S VDB penny. Worth about 1000 bucks

For the Wheat cent design, look out for these rare or better dates:
1909-S, 1909-S VDB, 1914-D, 1922, 1931-S, 1955 Doubled Die(doubling on date and lettering), 1910-S, 1911-S, 1912-S, 1913-S, 1914-S, 1915-S, 1922-D, 1924-D and 1943-dated bronze(all regular 1943s are suppose to be zinc-coated steel).
The Lincoln Memorial type cents are all common, except for doubled dies(not to be mistaken for machine doublings), low date and AM varieties; but all these are exceptional cases and require appraisals from numismatists.

search for zinc pennies.....they're rare, but very valuable. I think they were made in the 30's and/or 40's
