I am really prone to awful yeast infections that last seemingly forever (I once had one on and off for eight months) and doctors who are completely unhelpful. I have gotten better at preventing them, and that is what this question is about.
I have been sexually active with women for most of my dating life, but presently I am involved with a guy. The whole sperm thing is kind of freaking me out (pregnancy = bad) and I'd like to go with a belt-and-suspenders theory where both he and I use some form of birth control. In his case it will be condoms. In my case, I don't know. I know that I do not want a hormonal birth control. I am looking into getting fitted for a diaphram or a cap, but my problem is spermicide. Spermicide is necessary for diaphram use and it is also necessary to bump the condom success rate from 80% to 98%.
Does anyone have any expierence with spermicide causing yeast infections? I've heard about it, but I want to know how feasible it would be for me to use it. Thanks.

(Note: I know all about how to prevent and treat yeast infections and why they reoccur, etc. I'm asking specificly in regards to Spermicide. Thanks again for all your help/suggestions).

As I know it, the spermacide is on the "inside" of the condom and not on the outside of it so it shouldn't affect you. And, condoms in the best bet (rather than using a diaphram or cap) and the condoms prevent the yeast infections if they are used with clean hands. Yeast infections continue because the other partner continues to infect you. And, doctors used to treat those yeast infections by both giving oral medications and in addition you'd use the plunger with the egg thing or use the cream. So ask your doctor for the oral medication. The other reason yeast infections continue to happen are from wearing thongs and wearing synthetic panties because the infection gets trapped in the synthetic fibers (which panties usually aren't able to be bleached). So wear cotton panties for a while. Cotton can be bleached.
My final comment is that if the person you are having relations with has the infection then you keep getting reinfected each time you return to them. Maybe they should get treated too.

Most condoms do not have sperimicide anymor, since it can be so irritating. Most condoms only have a lubricant without spermicide. I think that spermicide can throw off your PH and cause yeast infections or make them worse.
If you don't want a baby, think about getting a copper IUD
