I love Cumberland Island. It's located at St. Marys, GA. It is a pristine wilderness with few people or cars and no stores, golf courses or restaurants; instead, it has primeval forests, sand dunes and wild horses. The sunsets/rises are gorgeous! It's so romantic!

Half-way between New Orleans in Louisiana and Tallahassee in Florida is a spot where Alabama nudges onto the Gulf of Mexico: and here lies Gulf Shores. See the Gulf Shores website, for driving distances from major cities. Gulf Shores is near the Emerald Coast area of Florida, an area that's up'n'comin' and notable for the impressive Sandestin resort.
Attractions include nature center and wildlife refuge, and other outdoors outings.
Adventure Island has minigolf, lasertag, Go-Karts, paddle boats, simulator coasters, arcade;
Gulf Coast Exploreum hands-on science center with IMAX theater;
Waterville USA waterpark; hot-air balloons; and several museums.
Attractions also include Gulf Shores Amusement Park, with rides, carts, games, and a zoo with animals in "natural habitats. Plus it is not over-commercialized....
Spring weather is usually warm, with cool evenings: average daily highis 66.7 in March, 74,4 in April, before rising to 81 in May.
What's special about Gulf Shores Alabama?
Gulf Shores, Alabama has 32 miles of sugar-white beaches, reasonable prices, great seafood, and a number of family attractions in addition to its miles of shores.

I wouldn't let reports of t'storms ruin your plans if you really wanted to go to Myrtle. I live in coastal SC, and there are t'storms EVERY day, but not until the afternoon. It is sunny and very hot during the day, which creates the storms that come through around 5ish. They also typically clear out by 8.

Check out the website www.bedandbreakfast.com
They list, by state, many bed and breakfast inns. They show the locations on the map so it should be easy to find one within the distance you need. Maybe you will find something there.
