If we did that, we wouldn't mess up the reserve. Thus, we would get oil, and nature would be protected. Right?

That's the problem with Americans: Everyone wants new oil sources, just not in their backyard. Everyone likes wind power, but don't put a couple hundred windmills in their backyards. Many people are actually okay with nuclear power, just don't build the reactor near their homes.

Personally, I don't care. I do pretty well for myself and I have no problem paying $5+/gallon for gas. Hell, raise it to $10/gallon. Maybe I can have the Interstate to myself on occasion.

No reason to drill sideways just drill straight down. ANWR is nothing but a cold weather desert. When the media runs a story on ANWR, they mislead by using pictures from other areas.

Makes sense, huh? Oh, wait I'm sorry, if it makes sense then it can't possibly work. There's probably some rare insect that will get caught in the hole from the drilling and will die thus prohibiting our ability to side drill in ANWR and probably doing away with side drilling altogether once the liberals in congress hear of it. Got any more good ideas?

Drilling into ANWR sideways would be more difficult technically than accessing it normally.
