I have a video capture card. I play the VHS tape and record the program onto the computers disk drive. Then I have a DVD burning program that allows me to make the adjustments I need to the mpeg file that I recorded. Then I burn the project to a DVD. It takes some time, but it works well. It comes in handy when we travel and the kids want to watch their VHS movies on the portable DVD player.

The easiest way is to buy one of the packages to do this, but some so not get the beast quality possible. I recommend that you get a good internal video card that has the proper inputs for video capture.
Once you install the software that comes with the card, you can capture the video and sound from the VHS player.
Some of the better cards are quite expensive, but you can get the cheaper models and still get a quality output. The key is the FPS (Frames per second) that the system captures.
Once you capture the video into a file you can then burn it to DVD.

A cheaper way is to use a capture card. A capture card is not a video card. It is installed in a PCI slot. Plug your VCR into the coaxial input on the capture card. Follow the instructions from the video card on how to record the video from the VCR to the hard drive on your computer. Then use your DVD burner to transfer the video to a disk.

it does not connect with a working laptop or computer, that's analog out and in. the objective of the gadget is to strip the Macrovision reproduction protection from the VCR playback. to hook up with a working laptop or computer you like an analog video USB capture card like EasyCap.
