Do you think the Earth will be destroyed by an asteroid, comet or meteor in the near future?

No, it would be very unlikely by any of those. The most likely thing that would destroy the Earth would be us.

No. The largest asteroid that has any chance of hitting Earth is too small to destroy the planet. It could cause a lot of damage, maybe even throw up enough dust into the air to totally mess up the weather for years and cause crop failures and starvation, but not destroy the planet completely. But no asteroid or comet or meteor that large is going to hit any time soon. Of course small, harmless meteors hit all the time.

It wouldn't destory Earth but it would devistate the planet and kill most everything on it. Depending on the size of it of course. But on average an asteroid or comet hits the Earth every 65 million years. Of course the last one that hit and killed the dinosaurs came and hit over 65 million years ago. So we are due for a hit.

On a personal note I don't think nearly enough time and money are put towards programs that look for asteroids and comets that could potentially be dangerous to this planet. Let alone they really don't know what to do if there is one. Not enough funding to test theories.
