I personally believe that there are thousands of orphans in the world that if a couple, gay or straight, wants to adopt them and care for them, why is it a big deal? Is it not better having overcrowded orphanages?

Because they are Ignorant people. My partner and I are in the midst of adopting. A child in the US though, since there are a lot of children here that need our love etc.

To Cody: We prefer a child that is 6 or 7 because I surely don't want to change diapers.

I personally don't have any problem with a Gay couple of either gender adopting a child. However, society in general, well the societies I've been part of, would ridicule that child to the point of mental scarring, whether it be in school or otherwise, due to the fact that their home life isn't "conventional" in their eyes.
I think most people with a good open heart would welcome the idea, as long as the child wasn't at risk of bullying...
No matter how gay friendly we are led to believe our world has become.. unfortunately kids can be very cruel.

Most people who oppose gay couples adopting do so because either they're worried that the parents will 'turn the child gay', or because 'the child will be bullied for having gay parents'.
The real reason, that they won't say out loud, is that they believe that all gay people are paedophiles who will molest any children in their care.

All complete nonsense, of course, but some people won't listen to the facts.

It is because they have been conditioned or taught this line of thinking. It's sad that many evangelists (Jerry Falwell, etc) warn of the "gay agenda", when there is no such thing.

A child's sexuality is fixed at birth and cannot be changed. Therefore, if he/she were raised by lesbian/gay parents it's not going to matter because their sexual orientation is going to remain the same as that they were born with. The only exception to this is that those in a closed environment (prisoners, etc.) temporarily shift to gay sex experience because that is there only outlet. Once they are returned to a normal environment then their sexual desires will also normalize.

Gay people have been taking in the abused, abandoned, sick, drug addicted, HIV babies and older children that were the result of abusive straight couples for many MANY years- We are taking them from cruel homes, or from unstable foster care and giving them stable, loving, respectful homes and forever families. Just because there is a mommy and a daddy DOES not by any means make it a good environment for raising children. There are plenty of loving, wonderful straight parents, but just being straight IS absolutely not enough qualification to raise a healthy child.

If someone thinks I am not a fit parent, you are welcome to come and adopt and raise the THOUSANDS of children that still need love and care in my state alone. Go to your local CPS and ask how many neglected and sexually abused kids came from gay adoptive parents. Gay parents aren't murdering their pregnant wives or drowning their children.

Many conservative straight people think that we gays want to adopt and raise children because we want to make them gay too. That is so wrong! Than, how come we turned out to be gay if our parents wanted for us to be straight.
If there is love and understanding in family than it doesn't matter there is mom and dad, or two dads, or two moms :)
Only bad thing I see with gay family is that a child could be abused by other children because he has two dads or moms and that could be very bad for children's psyche.
If I had a child with my husband :) I wouldn't raise him to be gay but I would raise him to be gay friendly.
Not all gays are for adopting children though.

They think that we can not raise a healthy well adjusted child....

Mr. Jello - I didn't want to live the home that I grew up in, but that's life. You can't pick your family.

We all come from different backgrounds with different problems....my father and step-mother were and still are drug addicts...I'm not......they are also racist and ill educated....I'm not.....
Just because we grow up in a home with parents that have questionable parental skills, does not mean that the child will be worse for wear or even be like the parents.... It's how that child takes what they consider obsticles or challenges and makes them better. We need to take responsibilty for our own futures and not place the blame on how we were raised....

Because they don't want the child to have two mommies or two daddies.

While I think it is "generally" better for a child to be raised by a loving mom and dad, I think that a gay or lesbian couple can do a fine job also.

People are just really ignorant and dont look at the good that a gay and lesbian couple would bring to a child

They just don't know any better.

And there aren't a lot of people. Most people are totally indifferent, much like with every topic, there's just a vocal few that oppose it and say they speak for a group, when in fact they do not.

It's politics really.

Its probably for the same reason that so many people want homosexuals to not exist at all. Fundamentalists, and other people like them, have decided to hate all gay people and they are opposed to anything and everything that gay people might do.

They would rather see children suffer unnecessarily and grow up without love than give up their hatred of gays.
