Space science has large commercial benefits, from weather forecasting to communications.
Astronomy is, aside from being really cool & nifty, in part about our place in the Universe and our origins.

They help to make the greatness of the universe more understandable to average people. It makes people think. A lot of physical laws were discovered through astronomy. A lot of facts discovered in astronomy are making people think. An example:
The mean value of the visual apparent diameter of our sun is 32 arc minutes. The mean value of the visual apparent diameter of our moon is also 32 arc minutes. The 32' of the sun are up and down once per year - the 32' of the moon goes up and down once a month. But the mean value of both is exactly the same within less than 0.1%.
This brings up the question if this is an accidental result of cosmic evolution after Big Bang or if there is something more behind this fact.
Astronomy can make people think - this can be important for mankind.

The biggest benefits have yet to be realized. To continue with space we must learn how to "make" water and air out of ordinary chemicals. We must learn new ways to grow food.
There is a potential for asteroid mining which alredy know can render things like nickel and iron. Even simple rock can be used to help build things on Mars, for example, as it's cheaper to get it there and import it from Earth
But in a few hundreds years space science might be a viable commdity providing real things to people on Earth, for a fee of course.

Tang, Velcro, and a whole lot of other inventions that we use every day including modern micro computers. These were all developed for space study and space exploration initially but have provided a huge amount to society as we know it.

we discover planets we cant even imagine to even see up close, we discover suns that are 100X as big as our own (yes there are suns that big and even bigger) we discover blackholes that can seriously wreck a whole solar system (closest blackhole to us is 8000 lightyears away)
we also have a tiny but possible chance of discovering planets that are possible to sustain life but the most important thing of all is that we keep on discovering things beyond our reaches, and that discovery time never ends since the universe is ever so big.

I don't suppose you'd consider "knowledge" a benefit?
