"Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" is one of my favorite Stephen King Short Storys. My Favorite King novel is The Stand. I've read both versions and they're equally good. The Dark Tower was terrific along the lines of the Lord of The Rings in Stature. My 2nd favorite King novel is Rose Madder. For some reason I identified with the heroine ans I just loved the book. My Favorite King Movie has to be the Shining only because of Jack Nickolson's acting.

I have read a lot of Stephen King's stuff but not liked a whole lot of it. There were some books he wrote earlier under a different name (Thinner is the one that comes to mind) I can't remember. Then he went into the formula books - change the villain to a vampire, rabid dog, possessed car, etc. and all of these left me totally cold. I feel that the best book from this period was Dead Zone. Then he went through a period where he was trying to write like Clive Barker( to my mind the best writer alive today ) and this was a waste of his time. Now, the Dark Tower series is totally different from any of his other stuff and I think it's great! I agree with Stand By Me for the best movie.

My favorite Stephen King novel is The Stand. My favorite short story is probably The Mist. I believe the best movie adaptation is The Stand because I just can't get enough of the characters in the story. I feel like I grew up with them and when one of them dies it feels like losing a loved one. I believe that he is a writer of many genres. To me, horror entails senseless violence. I think Stephen King includes some violence in his stories, but no more than in reality is part of our world today.

Stephen is a wrter of dark thrillers. You may not think Shawshank Redemption or Dark Tower falls into that category, but it does on an emotional level. After all, horror isn't always about slahers and gore. So I would say yes, it's still horror just on a psychological/emotional level.

I'm not a huge fan but have enjoyed a few of his books:

Bag of Bones
Pet Semetary (one of the best adaptations)
Dark Tower series

Movies:

Stand by Me

Bag of Bones is one of my favorite books of all times. I have to say that I'm not a huge fan of the movie adaptations of the stories though.(with the exception of Jack Nicholson's part in the Shining) I think that Stephen King is a great writer that is great at writing horror. Stick with what works!

My favorite would have to be Insomnia. I liked the Dark Tower series also. I own 48 of his books (some of them in hard and softback). I can't really give you a favorite movie, there are just too many that are really good. I will tell you my least favorite movie adaptation is Cat's Eye, it is so weird and idn't even close to the book. I think that Stephen writes what scares him, whether it scares us or not.

I really liked reading "The Stand." They haven't made any good film or TV versions of that. I think "The Shining" with Jack Nicholson is the best adapted movie.
I liked the Dark Tower series, but I thought the ending really sucked.
