Its what appears to be oil slick from the interstate on the side of my car. I took it immediately to the car wash, but no amount of scrubbing or spraying would get it all off. Is there something I can use to get it off?

Try using kerosene. It works on tar so it should work on the oil, without damaging your paint. Since kerosene is quite toxic, I would advice simple personal protective equipment such as the appropriate gloves and of course, face mask. Here is what you do. Put an adequate amount of the kerosene on a tack cloth then start to rub on the area. You will be surprised that in a few minutes, the stain will be gone. Good Luck

Spray a piece of terry cloth with WD-40 and rub the effected areas. The oil and tar will wipe off easily. Re -wax the affected areas.

WD-40 is a very light oil product and will not damage paint.

WD-40 has 5 chemicals that WILL destroy the clear coat.

If your really want it off the right way, use PREP_SOL it is available at any body supply or auto paint store.
By the sounds of it it is road tar.

All the Goo Gone in the world wont take that off.

WD-40 works well and won't damage the finish.

Spray it on and let it soak several minutes. Rub off with a soft rag. Repeat as necessary. After all of the oil is removed, wash with soap and water. Apply a coat of automotive wax.

There is special bug and tar remover you can buy at any auto section or store in the car wax section. Then use polishing compound then wax.
