My girlfriend usually takes her birth control about 9:40pm before bed. Last night she was in a beauty contest and wasn't free to take it until like 10:25pm. Is this a huge deal and should we refrain from sex for awhile or are we good to go??

I am not too sure that 40 minutes is going to make that much of a difference, they say to take it at the same time every day, partly to help you remember to take it, and partly so your body doesn't totally freak out with this hormone surge at different times every day, but with her taking it 40 minutes later, I can't see it being that big of a deal. If you are truly worrying about it, I would use an alternative method of birth control for a few days.

Everything will be fine. I don't take mine at the same time everyday & the only times I fell pregnant was the 2 times I went off the pill to get pregnant. I have been on the pill for 12 years, & it has been fine for me all this time!!

It's fine you usually get a 12 hours lea-way as long as you take it within those 12 hours and carry on as before everything should be fine

I was always told to take it within one hour of the same time every day. She should be fine.

As long as she took it right away, I wouldn't worry about it. They usually say take it asap, and if you missed a dose and its closer to the next one, take two. But don't worry about it. Use a condom for then few days if your that worried about it.

Don't sweat it - 45 minutes won't hurt. If she misses taking it for a couple of days, you need to be more careful. Of course, if you are uncomfortable, you can always wear protection yourself...
