how can I tell if my boyfriend is cheating on me?

You probably can't. But the fact that you suspect him means that there is something wrong in the relationship. Try to figure out WHY you don't trust him. Even if he's 100% faithful, if you don't trust him, there is something amiss between the two of you. Or in you, if you find it generally hard to trust people who give you no reason not to trust them. In any case, there are issues in this relationship -- work on them or end the relationship, as trust is one of the foundation stones that determine whether or not a relationship can endure or will crumble. Whether or not he is actually cheating is only one part of the problem here.

A girl can always tell. Guys start distancing themselves, they don't call regularly and if they have a cell phone and it's off at certain times where you're unable to reach him, and he says 'oh, I didn't know it was off', when you ask about it, you can be sure. Other tell-tale signs are obvious marks on his body (scratches on his back or hickeys).

If he starts distancing himself, makes things up, disappears for long periods of time, acts indifferent or ignores you... you won't ever really know though unless you catch him.

define on cheating. there is many version on cheating. there will no evidence if you cannot catch him.

the way he treats you, if something was improve or too much, confront him already, if he denied, leave him.
